Kites-project (Leijat-hanke)

Kites project  01.06.2015 – 30.05.2017

“The Kites Project” is managed by the Somali Family Association of Lieksa. The project is funded by the European Social Fund ESF for two years. During this project the immigrants by themselves develop and implement different services for immigrants. In collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland, the project has identified the need for services experienced by the immigrants’. Following the research´s results, a village house was developed as a pilot project where to test new activities with the immigrants themselves as workers and participants. In addition, the project held a variety of training sessions that increased the competences and the knowledge about social issues in Finland.

From October 2015 the project began gradually to develop voluntary club activities for immigrant women, men and children.

The Kites project works now at “Metka-kylätalo” or “Metka Village Huose”. Metka House is open on Monday and Wednesday from 09.00 to 15.00, Tuesday and Thursday from 10.00 to 18.00. It is easy to come to the house, there is no need for appointments. Look on the map for the exact location in Lieksa. You can also call to ask for help. Call the telephone 045-619 8475. We speak Finnish, English, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Arabic. If we cannot help you immediately, we will call you back! In addition, you can also send a text message and we will contact you.

In the house you can find already a lot of immigrants. The project participants are trying to reach out through their networks and attract more immigrants and various non-governmental associations of Lieksa.

Welcome to Metka Village House!

Greetings! TatJana, Makaran, Victoria and Anja
